ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the significance of liver biopsy and B ultrasonograpgy in the diagnosis of fatty liver. Methods The results of 62 patients with liver steatosis diagnosed by liver puncture biopsy but not by B-ultrasonograpgy were contrastively analyzed and combined with liver function, blood lipids, blood glucose, and body mass index. Results The 62 cases which were not diagnosed as fatty liver by B-ultrasonograpgy were proved to be 5%-33%liver steatosis after liver puncture biopsy. Among the 62 cases, 23 cases were indicated by the B-ultrasonograpgy that the liver parenchyma echo did not see abnormalities, 18 cases showed the liver parenchyma echo slightly was enlarged, 17 cases showed the liver parenchyma echo density was a bit enhanced and 4 cases were diffuse liver damage,which respectively were 37.01%、29.03%、27.42%and 6.45%. Pathologically it indicated that 45 cases were 5%≤liver steatosis≤19%. Among the 45 cases, 18 cases were indicated by the B-ultrasonograpgy that the liver parenchyma echo was not seen abnormalities, 8 cases showed the liver parenchyma echo slightly was enlarged, 17 cases showed the liver parenchyma echo density was a bit enhanced, and 2 cases were diffuse liver damage, and the change of ultrasound was mainly showed by the liver parenchyma echo not seen abnormalities and the enhanced liver parenchyma echo density. Pathologically it indicated that 17 cases were 20%≤liver steatosis≤33%, 6 cases were indicated by the B-ultrasonograpgy that the liver parenchyma echo did not see abnormalities, 5 cases showed the liver parenchyma echo slightly was enlarged, 5 cases showed the liver parenchyma echo density was a bit enhanced, and 1 case was diffuse liver damage, and the change of ultrasound was mainly showed by the liver parenchyma echo not seen abnormalities, the slightly enlarged liver parenchyma echo and the enhanced liver parenchyma echo density. By analyzing the influence to the ultrasound changes by patients' liver function, body mass index, blood fat and blood sugar, and with logistic regression analysis through a disorderly classification, it was found that the larger value of the glutamine transferase, alkaline phosphatase, body mass index, triglyceride and low density lipoprotein cholesterol, the higher possibility of diffuse liver damage, and the higher level of fatty degeneration, the higher possibility of diffuse liver damage. Conclusion In the diagnosis of fatty liver, when the fatty degeneration is below 1/3, B-ultrasonic examination can't show characteristic changes of fatty liver. It should be closely observed or take liver puncture biopsy to make a definite diagnosis of fatty liver.

ABSTRACT

Objective To provide the scientific basis for realizing the inter-accreditation of laboratory electrolyte detection results by comparing the electrolyte detection results in 5 grade 3A hospitals of Zhuhai city .Methods Each 10 serum samples with low , middle and high concentrations of electrolyte were collected for simultaneously detecting the electrolyte kalium (K) ,natrium (Na) and chlorinum (Cl) .The detection results were performed the statistical analysis and comparison .The mutual bias within 1/2 of al-lowable error of CLIA′88 indicated that the detection results were mutually accredited ,if the mutual bias exceeding 1/2 of allowable error ,the detection results could not be mutually accredited .Results The difference of electrolyte detection results in 5 hospitals accorded with the stipulation requirement of CLIA′88 .Conclusion The electrolyte detection results of 5 hospitals could be mutually accredited .

ABSTRACT

Objective To understand the vibrio vulnificus pollution condition in marine products in Zhuhai region and the drug resistance situation to provide the basis for further study of vibrio vulnificus and clinical medication .Methods 89 samples were col-lected from the marine products wholesale market ,pedlars′market and supermarkets in Zhuhai region and the method published by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) was adopted to perform the qualitative detection of vibrio vulnificus .The identifica-tion of bacteria and the drug sensitivity test were performed by using the ATB instrument .Results In 89 samples of marine prod-ucts ,vibrio vulnificus was detected in 39 samples ,the total positive rate was 43 .82% .The detection rate of oyster was as high as 60 .87% (28/46) ,followed by marine fish (39 .13% ,9/23) and marine shrimp (20 .00% ,2/10) .The drug sensitive test showed that vibrio vulnificus had the resistant strains to cephalosporins and aminoglycoside drugs .Conclusion The seafood vibrio vulnificus pollution in Zhuhai region can not be ignored .The monitoring of vibrio vulnificus in the marine products and the drug resistance a-nalysis should be strengthened for effectively preventing the outbreak of vibrio vulnificus .

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To observe the clinical efficacy of penyan pill (PP) in treating ureaplasma urealyticum (UU) infection patients of qi deficiency blood stasis syndrome (QDBSS).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Totally 188 UU infection patients of QDBSS were randomly assigned to two groups, the treatment group and the control group. Patients in the treatment group were treated with PP (10 g each time, thrice daily, 14 consecutive days as one therapeutic course), while those in the control group took azithromycin (10 g each day, 7 consecutive days as one therapeutic course). They were continually treated for 3 therapeutic courses. The clinical symptom integrals were observed in the two groups before and after treatment. The short-term efficacy was judged. Their recurrence rates were followed-up to assess their long-term efficacies.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The total effective rate of the comprehensive efficacy in the treatment group was 91.4%, while it was 79. 3%in the control group, showing no statistical difference between the two groups (P > 0.05). Better effects were obtained in improving Chinese medical clinical symptoms in the treatment group (P <0.01). There was no statistical difference in the negative conversion rate between the two groups after treatment (P >0. 05). There was statistical difference in the recurrence rate between the two groups (12. 82% vs 54.76%,P <0. 05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>PP showed equivalent effects in treating UU infection patients of QDBSS to those of azithromycin. But PP showed obvious advantages over azithromycin in improving Chinese medical syndromes.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective To establish a rat model of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS),and to study the changes in glucose metabolism by isotope tracer.Methods Female SD rats aged 21 days were divided into control group and PCOS group (made by means of testosterone propionate and high-fat diet).After 8 weeks of molding,glucose tolerance test and rat tail vein perfusion experiment was conducted,by application of the principle of stable isotope tracer technique,rate of glucose appearance was compared in two groups and thus glucose metabolism was measured.Results Compared with control group,PCOS group showed polycystic ovarian changes and significantly elevated serum testosterone levels.After 8 weeks of molding,fasting blood glucose showed no significant difference,while glucose tolerance was impaired and rate of appearance of 6,6-d2-glucose increased significantly in PCOS rats.Conclusions The testosterone propionate combined with high-fat diet could induce PCOS rat model,and the PCOS rats demonstrated a significant increase of glucose rate of appearance despite of normal blood glucose level.Therefore it is suggested that during the early stage of PCOS,change in the glucose metabolism has appeared,and early intervention may be beneficial.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To explore the anti-tumor immunity in vitro induced by prostate cancer cell vaccine transfected with recombinant adenovirus encoding 4-1BBL in mice.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The replication-deficient adenovirus AdEasy-1 system was used to construct recombinant adenovirus Ad-m4-1BBL and Ad-eGFP. The prostate cancer cell RM-1 of mice was transfected with Ad-m4-1BBL and Ad-eGFP, and treated with mitomycin (MMC) to produce TCV, TCV-Ad-eGFP and TCV-Ad-m4-1BBL, followed by co-culture with syngeneic murine spleen cells. Then the cytotoxic activity of the lymphocytes against RM-1 cells was analyzed with CCK-8 solution, and IL-2 and INF-gamma were detected by ELISA.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The 4-1BBL protein was highly expressed in the TCV-Ad-m4-1BBL of the 4-1BBL-transfected mice. TCV-Ad-m4-1BBL significantly increased the expressions of IL-2 ([180.24 +/- 2.22] pg/ml) and INF-gamma ([1512.46 +/- 23.64] pg/ml) as compared with TCV and TCV-Ad-eGFP (P < 0.05), and induced higher RM-1 cell specific cytotoxicity ([34.24 +/- 2.64]%) than the latter two ([9.82 +/- 1.48]%) and ([14.65 +/- 3. 21]%), (P < 0.05). But none of them exhibited significant cytotoxicity against hepatocellular carcinoma Hepal-6.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The m4-1BBL-expressing prostate cancer cell vaccine can effectively induce anti-tumor immune responses.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>AIM</b>To investigate the relationship between low androgen level and ultrastructure of vascular endothelium.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Forty-eight male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups: group A, normal rats with sham castration; group B, castrated rats; group C, castrated rats given testosterone (T) undecanoate; and group D, intact rats treated with 5alpha-reductase inhibitor. After 10 weeks of treatment or castration, rats in different groups were killed and serum T, free T (FT) and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) were measured. The aortic endothelia were scanned under electron microcopy and the Vascular Endothelium Structure Score (VESS) was computed.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Serum T and FT concentrations of rats in group B were significantly lower than those of the other three groups (P < 0.01); DHT concentrations of group D rats were significantly decreased (P < 0.01) when compared with those of groups A and C. Rats in groups B and D rats (with low androgen levels) had obvious damage to their endothelial surfaces, which appeared crimpled, rough, adhesive and ruptured, and had high destruction of VESS.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>These results suggest that low concentrations of T and DHT are associated with ultrastructural damage of the aortic endothelia in male rats.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the expressions of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) protein and mRNA in the lung of rats with hepatopulmonary syndrome. Methods Male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into four groups: sham operation (SO), intrahepatic portal hypertension (IHPH), prehepatic portal hypertension (PHPH) and portasymstimic shunt (PCS). Two weeks after preparation of rat models, the following measurements were performed: arterial blood gas analysis; the concentrations of NO in lungs; in situ hybridization of ecNOS and iNOS mRNA expressions in lung tissue sections with digoxin-labeled ecNOS and iNOS oligonucleotide probes; expressions of ecNOS and iNOS proteins by immunohistochemisty; image and semiquantitative analysis of the expressions of ecNOS, iNOS and their mRNA. Results PaO_ 2 was (73.85?6.51) mmHg in IHPH rats, significantly lower than that in PHPH, PCS and SO rats97.39? 1.33, 95.23?2.22 and (99.05?0.75)mmHg, respectively.The level of lung NO of IHPH was(19.78?5.33)?mol per gram of protein,much higher than that of PHPH, PCS and SO 13.21?3.99,13.89?3.16 and (8.71?1.68)?mol per gram of protein,respectively. In capillary endothelia, positive expressions of ecNOS mRNA and ecNOS protein in IHPH(4.96?0.82,4.11?0.28) were significantly higher than those of PHPH (1.81? 0.39, 1.63?0.18), PCS (1.88?0.53,1.83?0.16)and SO(1.19?0.32,0.98?0.20). Conclusion The expressions of NOS protein and mRNA in the lung of rats with hepatopulmonary syndrome were increased, and the level of lung NO was elevated, which seems to play an important role in the pathogenesis of hepatopulmonary syndrome.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To evaluate the efficacy of improved laparoscopic enucleation of benign ovarian cysts.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>A total of 234 cases of ovarian cysts with 271 cysts were analyzed retrospectively. 152 patients with 177 ovarian cysts (Group A) underwent the improved laparoscopic enucleation and 82 patients with 94 ovarian cysts (Group B) underwent the classic laparoscopic enucleation. The data of operative process and postoperative follow-up were compared between two groups.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The rate of spillage of the Group A and Group B was 1.7% and 18.1% (P<0.01), respectively. The operating time was (40 +/-14)min and (47 +/- 16)min (P<0.01), respectively. The blood loss was (25 +/-17)ml and (27 +/- 19)ml (P>0.05), respectively. The bowel deflation recovery time was (18 +/- 8)h and (19 +/- 8)h (P>0.05), respectively. The length of hospital stay was (2.0 +/- 0.5)d and (2.2 +/- 0.8)d (P>0.05), respectively.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Compared with classic laparoscopic procedure, the improved laparoscopic ovarian enucleation seems to be safer and more effective with shorter operating time.</p>

ABSTRACT

15 oocytes group than in the ≤15 oocytes group. All parients with the acute abdmen caused by ectopic and heterotopic pregnancy had tubal factor causing infertility. The misdiagnostic rate was significantly lower of reproductive-specialty doctors than non-reproductivespecialty doctors. Conclusion Excessive oocytes induced by ovarian hyperstimulation and tubal damage were main risk factors of acute abdomen. To reduce the misdiagnosis, non-reproductive-specialty doctors should know about IVF-ET and patients should be informed about the occurrence of these procedure related complications.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>We aim to describe the environment iodine concentration in salt, water and soil along Zhejiang Province coast in the China foreland. It will be helpful for us to judge whether this area is insufficient in iodine and universal iodized salt is necessary or not.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>We collected iodized salt samples, drinking water samples (tap water in the towns, and well water or spring water in the villages), water samples from different sources (ditches, lakes, rivers) and soil samples through random sampling in June, 2005. Salt, water and soil iodine was detected by arsenic-cerium redox method. Statistical analysis was expressed as mean+/-SEM by Windows SPSS 13.0.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>(1) The iodine concentration in salt was 27.9+/-4.33 mg/kg (n=108). (2) Seventy-five water samples were collected. The water iodine value was 0.6-84.8 microg/L (mean of 11.66 mug/L). The watershed along the Qiantang River has significantly higher iodine content than the water in Lin'an in mountain area (P<0.01). The iodine content and mean iodine content of tap water, well or spring water and natural water sources were 4.30+/-2.43 microg/L (n=34), 23.59+/-27.74 microg/L (n=19) and 12.72+/-10.72 microg/L (n=22) respectively. This indicated that among environmental water sources, the ditch iodine content was the highest with river water iodine being the lowest (P<0.01). (3) Soil iodine value was 0.11-2.93 mg/kg (mean of 1.32 mg/kg). Though there was no statistical difference of soil iodine in different districts (P=0.131), soil iodine content correlated positively with water iodine content.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Iodine concentration in salt accords with national policy of adding iodine in salt. Foreland has more iodine in water than mountain area. The data reflected that water and soil iodine in foreland area was not high, which suggests universal iodized salt should be necessary. Environment iodine has relatively close association with pollution.</p>
